In 2022, the Banteay Meanchey provincial police made significant achievements in the implementation of the “safe village-commune” policy.
Provincial police chief Sithi Loh told The Post on April 2 that they also held 9,429 public forums with 551,173 people in attendance.
“We conducted outreach programmes about the policy 46,137 times, reaching 615,941 residents. Of the 67 communes, 54 were rated first rank for the implementation of the safe village-commune policy, which is a source of pride for my officers,” he said.
“This was an improvement of seven communes over 2021. Second rank was awarded to 12 communes, while one was rated third rank. None of them were rated zero, another reason for us to be pleased,” he added.
He said the success of the implementation – in 659 villages – also demonstrated the dedication of his officers.
Since 2012, the provincial police have provided national identification cards to 66,827 people, and also launched a campaign to remind people to apply to replace expired cards.
“We have been updating ID cards since 2012, and have issued them to 66,8027 of the more than 800,000 residents of the province. The identification officers are now making people aware that there is a new model of ID card,” said Loh.
According to the General Department of Identification (GDI), all ID cards issued in June 2012 expired last year.
Since June, it noted, 1,727,094 ID cards have expired. And as of February this yera, 694,142 people had applied for replacements.
The GDI appealed to the holders of expired cards to apply as soon as possible, as the ID cards ensure they would be able to exercise their democratic rights and vote in the upcoming July national election. “We call on citizens whose ID cards have expired or have less than 90 days validity remaining to apply for a new card.”
Cards can be issued at commune or district administrative police stations, or the “One Window” service offices.
They could also be applied for at the GDI headquarters in Nirouth commune of Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district, or at its branch at Aeon Mall II, in the capital’s Sen Sok district.
