Royal decree grants new mandate to 3 governors

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni issued an April 11 royal decree renewing the appointment of the provincial governors of Banteay Meanchey, Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Cham provinces for their second mandate.

The decree read that Banteay Meanchey provincial governor Um Reatrey has been promoted to rank of Fourth Grade Senior Official. Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun and Kampong Cham provincial governor Un Chanda have risen to the level of Second Grade Senior Officials.

The decree stated that Prime Minister Hun Sen must implement the decree within a day of its signing.

Kampong Cham’s Chanda said that he was pleased that the King and the government leadership had faith in him. In response to this trust, he was committed to making the strongest possible efforts to develop the province.

“I will do an even better job to reward the trust of the leadership who decided to renew my mandate,” he added.

He explained that the three major industries in Kampong Cham – agriculture, services and manufacturing – are all attracting investment to fulfil their potential.

Reatrey of Banteay Meanchey said briefly that he would respect the decision.

“I have nothing to interpret because it was the decision made by the leadership,” he added.

Chamroeun declined to comment on the matter.

Chanda was formerly the Preah Vihear provincial governor. He took office as Kampong Cham provincial governor in 2019, replacing Chamroeun who was appointed as Preah Sihanouk provincial governor. Reatrey was appointed as Banteay Meanchey provincial governor in the same year, replacing his predecessor Suon Bovor.
